What is Cuyuna Outfitters Gear Exchange?

The new used gear consignment section at Cuyuna Outfitters offers customers the opportunity to sell their gently used outdoor gear through the store. Customers can bring in their pre-owned equipment such as camping gear, hiking gear, and outdoor apparel, and the store will sell it on their behalf. In return, sellers have the option to receive either store credit or cash for their items once sold. This service not only provides a convenient way for customers to declutter and make some money from their unused gear but also allows other outdoor enthusiasts to purchase quality equipment at a more affordable price.

What Sort of items do you accept?

Our new used gear consignment section accepts a wide range of outdoor equipment and apparel that aligns with our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. We prioritize items that are gently used and well-maintained to ensure a superior shopping experience for our customers. Accepted items include mountain bike gear, snowshoes, ski equipment, camping gear such as tents, sleeping bags, and cookware, hiking gear such as backpacks, trekking poles, performance hunting & fishing gear, boots and of course outdoor apparel like jackets, pants, and base layers.

To maintain the integrity of our store's offerings, all items must be from brands that meet our quality standards and are included on our acceptable brands list. This curated approach ensures that customers can trust the reliability and performance of the gear they purchase from us, whether it's brand new or gently used through our consignment program. By adhering to these guidelines, we strive to provide a seamless and satisfying experience for both buyers and sellers in our outdoor community.

Where do you sell the gear?

our primary focus for selling consigned gear is within our physical store, where customers can browse and interact with the items directly. However, to expand the reach and visibility of the gear, we also leverage online sales channels such as eBay. This allows us to tap into a broader audience of outdoor enthusiasts who may not be local to our store but are still interested in high-quality, gently used gear.

In the future, we are also working on establishing our own online storefront. This will provide another avenue for customers to explore and purchase consigned gear from the comfort of their own homes. By embracing both in-store and online sales channels, we aim to maximize the exposure of the gear while ensuring a convenient shopping experience for all our customers, regardless of their location or preferences.

How do I get started?

we are excited to announce that we will be accepting gear in-store during our normal business hours, which for the winter season are Fridays through Sundays. This allows customers the opportunity to bring in their gently used outdoor gear and apparel for consignment during times that are convenient for them.

Currently, we will only be accepting season-neutral and summer/fall items due to the nature of the winter season. This includes gear and apparel suitable for a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and general outdoor adventures. We want to ensure that the items we accept align with the needs and interests of our customers during this time of the year.

Our dedicated staff will be available during these hours to assist customers with the consignment process, providing guidance on the items we accept and helping them set up their consignment accounts. We look forward to welcoming our customers and their quality gear into our consignment program, enriching our store's offerings and providing opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to find great deals on gently used gear. Once your gear is dropped off, please allow us time to sort, tag and get your gear ready for sale.

What are the Terms of the sales?

Consignment Percentage: When you consign your gear with us, you have the option to choose between receiving cash or store credit upon the sale of your item(s). We offer a higher percentage of the sale price in store credit compared to cash. This incentivizes customers to choose store credit, which benefits both the customer and our store. Additional details are available in our consignment agreement.

  1. Sale Price Tiers: The percentage you receive from the sale of your item(s) increases with the sale price. This tiered structure rewards higher-value sales and encourages customers to consign quality gear.

  2. Consignment Period: Your items will remain on consignment with us for a set period, typically determined at the time of consignment. If your items haven't sold within this period, you may have the option to reclaim them or extend the consignment period.

  3. Condition of Items: We only accept items that are gently used and in good condition. This ensures that our customers receive quality gear and enhances their shopping experience.

  4. Acceptable Brands: Consignment items must be from brands that meet our quality standards and are included on our acceptable brands list. This curated approach maintains the integrity of our store's offerings and ensures customer satisfaction.

Can I donate Items?

In addition to providing a platform for customers to sell their gear, we also believe in partnering to give back to our local community. Any donated items that meet our quality standards will be resold, with a higher percentage of the sale proceeds going towards supporting local community programs. Specifically, proceeds from these sales will benefit organizations such as the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew, Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Team, and Range Ride.

Furthermore, items that are not sold through our consignment program may be passed on to Common Goods, a reputable local upscale thrift shop that supports various charitable programs in the community. This ensures that all items donated or consigned with us contribute to meaningful initiatives that make a positive impact locally.

Overall, our consignment agreement not only provides a convenient way for customers to sell their gear but also allows them to support community programs and initiatives through their contributions.
